I have been using the remote really close to it. It seems you have to be pretty dead on with your aim at a close distance. From further away it is more forgiving. I think it was an aiming problem on my part. Will let you know if I have any more trouble.

I didn’t need to make any adjustments. It does stick out past the back but I don’t plan on hanging mine. They also make them where the head doesn’t have the gap underneath. That style may not stick out. I picked them up at Home Depot, the size is #6-32×3/8″.
